Statistics

This term has been great, i have been able to learn heaps about statistics. Last year i did not know what a stem and leaf chart was or what a Histogram is. but thanks to Mrs Lyford i know what is is now a steam and leaf graph is .... is a way of summarising a set of data measured on an interval scale. And a histogram ... it is a way of summarising data that are measured on a interval scale. The bars are all connected together like they are glued together.

question 1

a. 4cm length x2
4cm width x2
= 16

5cm width x2
5cm length x2

7cm width x2
7cm length x2
=49

9cm length x2
9cm width x2
=81

6 cm length x2
6 cm width x2
=36

answer 9m2

10m x 10m = 100
answer 100m2

11cm x 11cm = 121
answer 121cm2

1.5m x 1.5cm = 2.24
answer 2.24m2

12mm x 12mm = 143
answer 143m2

answer 6.4m2

question 3

a. area of a square = s squared
16cm2 x 16cm2 = 136

6 x 6= 36

10 x 10= 100

answer 136

169m2 x 169m2 = 1,441

9x9 = 81

6x 6 = 36+0 = 360

10 x 10+ 0 = 1000

(4x4)=16x4=64

(5x5)=25x5= 125

(7x7)=49x7=343

term 3

Radius and diameter

Every point on a circle is the same distance from the centre. The distance from the centre of the circle to the circumference is called the radius ( plural- raddi) A line segment from one side of a circle to the other side, the goes through the centre is called a diameter.

Term 4

algebra
writing and solving equations for practical problems.
Example: If you double Nigels age and then add 5 it totals 17. How old is nigel?
Answer let n= Nigels ages.
2n+5=17
2n= 17-5
2n=12
n=12
รท2
n=6

Nigel is 6 years old.

Solving equations :
a number sentence containing numbers, a letter and mathematical signs is called an equation.
an equation must have an equals sign.
Example y+5=12, p-6=14, 8k=32, 2h+6=18 (2h means 2xh)

example: a+14=27
a=13
because 13+14=27

I have learnt a lot of maths in this term. thanks to Mrs Lyford i have achevied a lot.
